From yesterday's class - 6 Stroke Rolls

From the analyst!! :-) BTW, I very much enjoy these classes. I've been working on some material that goes toward Dr. T's whole notion of breaking things down. Maybe I've gone too far... ;-)

For me, this process has been very Stick Control centric as there are certain things locked inside Page 5 that go to mathematical / spacial relationships of when we have to compress 3 to 2, 5 to 4, or expand 2 to 3, 4 to 5, etc..

I'm a visual learner. And on math, geometry is the thing I cling to because it's applied math. And the problem is how to convey what is a 3 dimensional thing that is non-linear.. (space and time) to a linear, 2 dimensional grid? I've come up with this approach that has helped me manage the space... with what needs to be put into it and played a certain way. One thing this approach has help reinforce to me is that when displace, we displace space, which in turn has a knock on effect of displacing what has to be played, which has a knock on effect to notation. And then it gets a bit complicated... because it is. But it is also simple.. not complex.

The fun zone is in the roll, because there's space to play... literally!! And we can see it.

The idea here is a canvass.. a constant space to which we apply a raw count..a coordinate system (that works for 6/8!!).. Eventually, conforming time and space (what we are playing and how we to play it) to 4, with a feel of 3. After a while, the process eventually collapses into lens that I just started seeing things through...because that's how Stick Control was constructed. I have some material on that if anyone is interested. George Stone's Teacher Frank Dodge.. MIT class of 1901...Mechanical Engineering. A lot of interesting stuff going on Cambridge, Bern, Munich, Berlin, Copenhagen..

In case you are wondering... time..space..the merger of the two and how that can fight against nature..and how that creates a difficulty..and the implications of that.. Einstein, June,1905..The Electrodynamics of Moving Objects..the paper that was before and incorporated into his paper on General Relativity..Nobel Prize for Physics, 1922..

If you find this useful, please take it.. and mold it as you see fit.

John, you are way smarter than me. Thanks for this perspective.
